So what is the Doughnut Test? Well simply put, it’s a test about temptation and how you handle it. How does it work? Let’s first talk about the name…
Now It’s called the Doughnut Test because doughnuts are delicious and enjoyed all around the world (so many can relate). Also because I love em and find them simply irresistible! Testing my own temptation and having to deal with real emotions while conquering self control is challenging.
Now you may be thinking :
Ok, Doughnuts. Well I can’t have them and/ or don’t like them so…Well you are in luck. You too can participate in the test. Doughnuts are my choice of test subject. Yours could be caffeine french fries or even smoking. As long as it’s something your heart truly desires and you know it’s not the best for you. In fact you’ve tried to reason with the beloved, find ways to fit it in yet still it’s not the best for you and you know it.
Alright, I’m game. How do you play?
The Doughnut Test
Purchase or prepare your ALL TIME favorite Doughnut flavors or recipe. Leave the Doughnuts in plain view. On counter top, clearly available to see. Go about your day as you normally would without eating a single Doughnut. Alternative sweets are not allowed in this test to fill the void. It’s really a test of will. Will you succeed or fail? Will you stay committed or Will you quit? Will you be proud this time or will you still need time to get there? This test isn’t about making anyone feel bad or discouraged. It’s about testing yourself and seeing how you preform. Holding yourself accountable for what happens.
No one has to or needs to know you are doing this exercise. Or everyone can know you are. It’s totally up to you and your WILL.
Try it sometime. It’s a great way to see if you can really stay committed to other things in your life.
