I’ve always pictured stress as this huge rollercoaster ride called ” THE STRESSOR “. That has a steep climb of 1000 feet and a drop that goes straight down without an adjustment period. Just when you think the last dip around the bend is up ahead you are undoubtedly back in rotation. Now I know there may be thrill seekers that find this example a dream. But for me its just the opposite. I am at my best in a balanced state of mind and body which is tough on a rollercoaster (hence the example). And to be honest really so are you. Now I’m not shaking my finger. I’m just saying. Stress is the silent samurai that steals away all of those “Good Feelings” I advocate so strongly about. So how do you fight the power?
When FEELING the onset of stress
- Stop and breathe
- Focus your attention on your inhale
- Focus you attention on your exhale
- Focus on the pace of your heartbeat
- Stay in this place of focus for as long as you can
- Repeat when necessary
Or to avoid stress
- Be active (exercise, dance, sing)
- Be self rewarding (indulge in your pleasures)
- Be patient (refer to above instructions)
- Be mindful of how you feel in your day
- Talk about how you feel
Always try to regain your balance by first finding peace.
